What is it?

In this task you will re­cord an audio file in which you read one scene of your cho­sen book out loud. You can choo­se the scene on your own. It could be your fa­vo­ri­te scene, one you be­lie­ve is im­portant to the plot or so­me­thing com­ple­te­ly dif­fe­rent. The audio re­cor­ding should be 1-2 mi­nu­tes long.

What do I need?

- a text pas­sa­ge of your choice

- a de­vice to re­cord the audio file (e.g. your iPad)

Step by step

1. Choo­se your text pas­sa­ge

2. Prac­ti­ce re­a­ding the pas­sa­ge

a) read the pas­sa­ge si­lent­ly first

b) af­ter­wards, read it out loud se­ve­r­al times

c) pay at­ten­ti­on to: pro­nun­ci­a­ti­on and punc­tu­a­ti­on (e.g. pau­ses, em­pha­sis, …)

3. Set up your re­cor­ding space

a) choo­se a quiet place with no back­ground noi­ses (e.g. close win­dows, …)

4. Set up your re­cor­ding de­vice

a) make sure the mi­cro­pho­ne is not co­ver­ed or blo­cked

b) re­cord a short test (e.g. read the first sen­tence, …)

c) if necess­a­ry, make ad­just­ments

5. Re­cord your re­a­ding

a) start re­a­ding slow­ly and cle­ar­ly

b) if you make a mista­ke just take a breath and start the sen­tence again

6. Lis­ten and check

a) lis­ten to your re­cor­ding from start to fi­nish

b) ask yours­elf: Did I speak cle­ar­ly?, Is the back­ground quiet?

c) if necess­a­ry, edit out mista­kes or long pau­ses

7. Save your audio file

- don't be afraid to make mista­kes

- drink water be­fo­re re­cor­ding
