What are Conjunctions?
Conjunctions...

...are words that link other words, phrases and sentences together.



You can distinguish between three different types of conjunctions and

each conjunction has different linking words:

Coordinating
Conjunctions...

...connect two words or groups of words with the same grammatical structure.





Example:

Marc and Andrew cooked dinner together.

Subcoordinating
Conjunctions...

...connect dependent clauses with independent clauses.







Example:

I will help you whenever you need me.

Correlative
Conjunctions...

...connect words, phrases and sentences with complementary relationships. They are always used in pairs.



Example:

Neither he nor she enjoys math.

Linking words:



for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so

Linking words:


although, because, before, until, whenever, if, since, once

Either/or, Both/and, Not only/but also, Rather/than, Whether/or
