1 Anna sat on the steps in front of her house, her hands deep in her coat po­ckets. It was cold, but she didn’t move. The sky was grey, and the wind pul­led gent­ly at her hair. She felt a heavy sad­ness in her chest. Nothing had gone the way she had hoped. Her best fri­end hadn’t tal­ked to her all week, and the messa­ge from her mo­ther had been short

Why does ever­y­thing feel so far away? she thought.   

A tear rol­led down her cheek, but she didn’t wipe it away. She didn’t want to pre­tend today. Even the wind see­med to whisper her wor­ries back to her. But even in the midd­le of her sad­ness, there was a small voice in­si­de her that said: This won’t last fo­re­ver.
