Task 1- History of Nigeria

Ni­ge­ria has a long and com­plex his­to­ry that still sha­pes its iden­ti­ty today. In this task, we will ex­plo­re key his­to­ri­cal events and crea­te a di­gi­tal time­line.

  • We will di­vi­de the class and each group will focus on one his­to­ri­cal pe­ri­od. Sel­ect the most im­portant events, and enter them di­rect­ly into a di­gi­tal time­line.

  • Group 1: An­cient & Pre-​colonial (until ~1500)

  • Group 2: Co­lo­ni­al pe­ri­od to In­de­pen­dence (1500-1960)

  • Group 3: Post In­de­pen­dence (1960-​present)

Open your text­books to pages 15-17 and read in­di­vi­du­al­ly. High­light important dates, his­to­ri­cal tur­ning points, sur­pri­sing or im­pact­ful mo­ments.

Each entry should in­clu­de:

  • Short de­scrip­ti­on (2-3 sen­ten­ces)

Share your ans­wers.  Each group pres­ents their ent­ries in chro­no­lo­gi­cal order. It should be clear why this event is im­portant and how it shaped Ni­ge­ria's de­ve­lo­p­ment.
